Meet your Coaches...

Coach Rebecca

     Rebecca came to the United States from Canada to attend university as a NCAA cross country and track and field athlete.  She received a full scholarship to Georgia State University and then transferred to Florida Atlantic University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.   She currently holds the FAU school records for both the 5000m and 10,000m (16:50, 35:53).  In 2012, Rebecca was named FAU Student Athlete of the Year and upon becoming an alumni, moved on to be the strength coach for the Cross Country team for the 2012-2013 season.

 

     Coach Rebecca was first introduced to CrossFit by her teammate/roommate in 2008.  Her intensive running training schedule prevented her from engaging too much in the CrossFit lifestyle, as her goals were sport specific at the time: to become faster in distance running.   After numerous running injuries and stress fracture, in 2010 Rebecca decided that she was going to take a different approach to her training and incorporate a larger aspect of strength and conditioning.  In 2010, Rebecca became very involved in CrossFit and was attending 3-4 classes a week.  “I always felt that there was something missing in my training, and CrossFit had the answer.  CrossFit made me feel so much stronger and every aspect, and not only did my running improve, the injuries stopped and I was able to train more consistently for my sport!”  Coach Rebecca has trained as numerous Crossfit gyms since then, in both Canada and the US.  She is a certified Crossfit trainer and USA Weightlifting certified performance coach with experience working with group, personal training, and varsity athletes.  

 

     “Whether it be on the track or in the gym, I love pushing myself to new limits and becoming a stronger person both mentally and physically.  I also love helping others achieve their fitness goals and helping people reach heights that they never thought possible.  However, reaching your goals requires commitment, dedication, and perseverance.  There are no short cuts.  CrossFit will not only make you into the best physical shape of your life, but it also prepares you for your life endeavors outside the gym.  Crossfit trains you to conquer the unknown and the unknowable.  When life throws a curve ball, you will be ready.

Coach Matt

Coach Matt was born and raised in Boca Raton, FL, and attended Boca Raton High School. He went on to study and graduate with degrees in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Florida State University (Go Seminoles!!).

 

Immediately out of college he earned a position as a project manager in the construction industry back home in south Florida. Regarding his personal fitness, he had always been an avid gym goer, but it wasn’t until after college when he discovered CrossFit. Once he gave it a legitimate chance, it was an understatement to say he was hooked. “It absolutely blew away any kind of workout I was doing before; there is nothing like it. I am accomplishing in 1 hour, what I would have performed in 3 days at the gym before! Not to mention, the community aspect of it is one of the best parts. I get to work out next to and compete with my friends on a daily basis, and I absolutely love it.”

 

After a little more than 3½ years in his project management position, he and his wife (Coach Rebecca) decided they would do full time what they love; CrossFit!

Coach Backoff 

Coach Backoff, CF-L1, USAW L1, NASM CPT

 

Originally from Long Island, NY and was always involved in sports growing up. 

Moved to FL in 2006 and is married to Drew Backoff, they have 3 sons, Reid, Trevor and Shane. 

 

Found Crossfit in 2014 after a friend convinced me to try a class. I was hooked from the very instant. I had always loved fitness, but always felt like something was missing and would find myself bored after a few months. Crossfit allows you to constantly work on bettering yourself in so many different ways as well as brings that competitive aspect for the athlete inside all of us that loves to push and be pushed.

Coach Phil, CFL1

 

Coach Phil grew up in Northwest Ohio, in a little town called Arlington. He graduated from Arlington High School in 2005. Phil then headed south to attend North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, NC. In 2010, he graduate with a double major in Turfgrass Science and Landscape Design. Coach Phil currently works at Boca West Country Club as an assistant superintendent. 

 

CrossFit was introduced to Coach Phil while in college at NC State. Although, he never really became interested in it until the beginning of 2011. He moved to Charleston, SC right out of college to pursue a career in golf course management. Phil began CrossFit during lunch hours with a couple co-workers where they would follow the programming of a local box. A few months later he decided to find a local box, CrossFit Charleston, where he called home for over 3 years. In the spring of 2012, Phil attended the CrossFit Level 1 seminar and became certified to coach. Phil then started coaching a couple evening classes a week. He has competed in several local team competitions and as an individual while in Charleston. Upon leaving Charleston and moving to Austin, TX, he got plugged into a local box, CrossFit Renew, and started coaching shortly after. Coach Phil moved to Delray Beach in May of 2015.

 

Coach Phil grew up playing all the recreation sports. Once in high school he focused mainly on basketball and football, while playing golf for fun. "I remember the workouts/training for high school sports and nothing compares to a CrossFit WOD. If only I had encountered CrossFit back in high school."  While in college Coach Phil was blessed to be a manager for the NC State Men's Basketball team. He was able to see first hand what college athletics and training programs are all about. "I've tried the routine training programs, but after a few weeks I quickly became uninterested and bored. Once I found CrossFit, it was a completely different. I loved the idea of the training being constantly varied, functional, and for competitive fun. I drank the kool-aid as they say. But the best part about CrossFit is the community of people. Being able to workout with the people, coach them, and hangout outside of the box is what makes it so good!" 

 

 

 

Coach Lippy, CFL1

 

Coach Lippy was born and raised in Boca Raton, Florida and maintains a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Miami. She went on to attend Barry University Law School where she earned a law degree and continued her education by achieving a Masters of Health Administration from Florida Atlantic University.

 “I was looking for a way to get strong and healthy. Being overweight for most of my adult life was a constant battle. I tried every type of workout there was: personal training at local gym, spin classes, kickboxing classes. You name it I tried it, but nothing stuck. Eventually, I would stop seeing results and would give up. Then I walked into CrossFit Dimensions 3 years ago for my first class with Coach Matt (albeit an Olympic weightlifting class) and I was hooked. I am the strongest and healthiest I have ever been!”

Coach Lippy when on to take her Level 1 Certification and has been coaching at CFD ever since.
